The bright sun will bring it into the light of day

Now, surprisingly, there is also one pro-Semitic Grimm  tale:

The tale ‘Die klare Sonne bringts an den Tag’ (The bright sun will bring it into the light of day) was told by the Fairy Tale Teller Dorothea Viehmann to the Grimm Brothers in July 1813.

Here, a greedy tailor’s apprentice kills a Jew and finally gets executed for this crime.

But since this was a pro-Semitic story, it was not suitable for the NAZIs. 

The German writer Josef Prestel wrote in 1938:

Wir haben keine Veranlassung, unseren Kindern das [dieses] Märchen in Grimms Wortlaut zu erzählen und damit einen Juden zum unschuldigen Opfer werden zu stempeln.

We have no reason to tell our children this fairy tale in Grimm's wording and thus to label a Jew as an innocent victim.


The Grimm researcher Holger Ehrhardt put it like this: 

[The Grimm Brothers show] ..”a diffuse antipathy towards the Jews, which runs like a red thread of the emerging anti-Semitism through their letters ” .. . and  … “since they had well-known social relationships with Jews in their private lives, such as with the Hebrew teacher Jochil or with the bankers Carl Rothschild and Wolff Rinald in Kassel, they should have known better.

Ciphered Bodies - Disciplined Bodies

As an addendum to what I have written before, I would like to write down some of the aspects Annette Peller pointed out in her book ‘ Chriffierte Körper – Disziplinierte Körper. Female Genital Cutting. Rituelle Verwundung als Statussymbol’.   To my knowledge, there is no English translation of the book. The title would probably read as follows: Ciphered Bodies - Disciplined Bodies. Female genital cutting. Ritual wounding as a status symbol ' . The book represents her PhD thesis and was written in 2000. First, Annette Peller prefers to use the word ‘ Excision ’ instead of cutting or mutilation, since it is somewhat more neutral and the term is better able to handle certain aspect of ritual wounding. Annette Peller did much of her research while living with the Arbore and other ethnic groups in Southern Ethiopia.
